PROCESS highlights
Before starting my process I did a brainstorming on the topics I would research on, as well as specifying and choosing what my final product would be.
Accomplishing my goal
Investigating
Inquiry Questions
-
Which are the needs disabled people have to take into account while designing a house?
-
How can we help improve disabled people’s lifestyles through the design of a house?
-
Which is the process it takes to design a house?
To answer each inquiry question I had to make sub questions that helped me improve my research, communication, social, and reflective skills.

Planning
Research Action Plan
For my project to be successful I created two action plans, one for my research and another one for my product that would help stay on task and organize my time wisely.

The first action plan for my research is divided into four sections. For each of my inquiry questions I ask myself :
-
What?
-
How?
-
When?
-
What happened/ To do.

The making of the virtual and physical scale model
Watch me explain the difference between the process of making a physical scale model and a virtual scale model!
I then went to the app FLOOR PLANNER and copied the sketch I made, making some adjustments, then placing the basic furniture to get an idea.
I then had a Zoom meeting with my architect cousin in which I showed her my process and idea, and she told me what things I needed to change and improve, making rooms bigger and having a much bigger haul before, making me think of the air transition through the house.
I started doing the walls of each room according to the measurements I have set up, I also implied the certain measurements for each accessible room and requirements for an accessible bathroom. I then started making holes in which I was going to place the doors.
I started placing the furniture, I had trouble finding the correct furniture, and it was taking too long to upload the different furniture online.
DIFFICULTY: The program started crashing and took too long to load and open. I then placed different furniture I liked and applied it to a modern house.
Finally, I created the garage with is certain space for the person to get in and out.
I had my second Zoom meeting with my architecture cousin in which I showed her my process, and then I shared my work with her, so she could help me fix things.
DIFFICULTIES:
-
When I was trying to send my work to her, it was taking too long to load
-
She then helped me rearrange the kitchen and gave me some tips on how to make it stop freezing my screen so much. She corrected the walls I made in different groups, and put them all in the same group, so I can remove them and see only the furniture and vise versa.
Process of my physical scale model
-
I first decided to do my scale model on a scale of 1:50
-
After deciding I started measuring each wall and multiplying by 2 and then drawing out the shape on straw cardboard.
-
I continue doing the walls until I finally get 22 walls in total, which takes me more time than expected as I had to cut down 2 pieces of cardboard together and not one.
-
Furthermore, I then cut down windows, doors, and garage doors using brown cardboard, to make the scale model have different tones.
-
I then created the entry path and garage area with paper and painted it with pastels.
-
Finally, I get 3 reusable trees I had in my house and paste them on their corresponding spot.
